Smart Principles

Smart marketing isn’t complicated but it does require an understanding of some basic principles and how they apply to various communications challenges.

  1. Focus on clear objectives. What are you trying to achieve? Is it a change in behavior or attitudes, buy in to a new initiative, or is it related to new policies and procedures?
  2. Know where you are going.

  3. Connect with your audience. What is important to them and what do they want and need to know?
  4. Stop looking in the mirror.

  5. Listen to the needs of your customers, employees and other stakeholders. Make a genuine effort to truly understand them by keeping the lines of communication open. You will gain important insight and strengthens your connection with them.
  6. Don’t just talk – listen.

  7. Engage by listening, learning and responding. Engaging in an ongoing dialogue with your audience whether they are employees or customers you important insight and strengthens your connection with them.
  8. We are all human, we all have needs.

  9. Integrity matters most. Being open and honest, authentic and credible speaks volumes. Without integrity, your communications are empty and worthless.
  10. “Walk the talk”. Lead by example.
